Biosafety cabinets (BGK) are airflow regulated devices designed specifically to protect working personnel and the environment from infectious aerosols and splashes. One of the two most important features of these devices is that they provide a controlled air flow and the other is to eliminate microscopic particles in the air. The air flow is directed from the room where the user is into the interior of the cabin, thus ensuring user safety. Exhaust air that is exhausted in biosafety cabinets is filtered air because these cabinets have a high-efficiency particle capture (HEPA) filter. HEPA filters have the capacity to hold at least 99.97% of 0.3 micron diameter particles. Class II BGK protects both personnel, environment and test materials. Class II biological safety cabinet is the most frequently used model in biomedical and microbiology laboratories.
